Dough Bar

We need to begin this "Best of the Beach" report card with a little bit of Milton math.

DE Pizza Online has reviewed two pizza restaurants in Milton. There is only one Milton pizzeria left on our original list. So, technically, we have now eaten at a majority of the entire Milton pizza universe.

We will leave it to our readers to decide whether that qualifies us as Milton pizza experts.

But at this halfway-ish point, Dough Bar is our choice for the best pizza restaurant we have reviewed in Milton.

Dough Bar made a good first impression. It is in a lovely setting beside a pond, the restaurant is comfortable, the service was excellent, and there were plenty of regulars who seemed to know the staff and vice versa.

In other words, it felt like a neighborhood restaurant. Then, after a salad, we got to the pizza.

We ordered a cheese pizza and a white pizza with ricotta and pesto. We had actually planned to order a vegetable pizza. But Dough Bar was out of mushrooms.

A pizza restaurant that runs out of mushrooms? Well, they had an explanation. You'll have to read the original review to decide whether you buy it.

The pizzas themselves gave us plenty to discuss. The mozzarella was good. The white pizza with ricotta and pesto was a particular favorite. The sauce on the cheese pizza was, shall we say, a subject of disagreement.

One reviewer thought it was extremely sweet. The other liked it. This is why we have at least two reviewers eating every pizza we review.

The biggest issue was the dough.

For a restaurant called Dough Bar, we expected the dough to be a major attraction. Instead, we thought it was alright, but lacked the distinctive character we look for in great pizza.

Naturally, that led to a DE Pizza Online Dad joke involving the phrase “setting the bar.” Her was not impressed. She rarely is when Dad jokes start to fly.

There is more pizza forensics in the full review, including some interesting observations about the crust, the possibility of identifying dough suppliers by taste, and a Caesar salad with enough garlic to become a separate participant in the review.

You should probably read that part.

The final composite score was 5 out of 8 slices, rounded down from 5.25. Her gave Dough Bar 4.5. Him gave it 6. The ratings tell you something important about Dough Bar.

We did not think it was one of the best pizzas we have reviewed on the Delaware Shore. But we did think it was a good pizza in a very pleasant restaurant with excellent service, a lovely setting, good mozzarella and a particularly enjoyable white pizza.

And that is enough to win out in Milton—at least for now.

There is still one Milton pizzeria left on our list (unless our readers let us know about others). So unlike some of our other halfway-point winners, we have a very specific piece of unfinished business sitting right there on the horizon.

Could the standings change? Absolutely. Because it's only halftime. One of our reviewers is a huge New York Knicks fan. And anyone who watches Knicks basketball knows the game and a season can change in the second half. Even in the fourth quarter. Even in the last few seconds of the fourth quarter. Let's Go Knicks!!!

We've now named our halfway-point choices in Lewes, Rehoboth Beach, Bethany Beach and Milton. But we still have plenty of pizza to eat—and we still owe visits to pizza places in Dewey Beach, Selbyville and elsewhere on the Delaware Shore.

We'll get there. In the second half. And if there is a pizza place we haven't reviewed yet that you think we need to try, keep lobbying us. Our readers have already helped us find some very good pizza.

Congratulations to Dough Bar: DE Pizza Online's halfway-point choice for the best pizza restaurant we've reviewed in Milton.

Now, go read the review and tell us whether you agree.
